Art has always been woven into the fabric of my life. As a child, I was captivated by colour and the magic it brings to the world. I spent countless hours drawing, hoping to capture the beauty around me—especially the stoic, colour-streaked trees that sparked my early fascination with how colours interact and how pictures can tell stories. While my childhood attempts at people and trees were far from perfect, my love for art never faded, even as adult life swept me along other paths.
It wasn’t until my 60s that I truly returned to art, this time with fresh enthusiasm and no expectations. I discovered Flow Art (Pouring), which allowed me to play with vibrant colours and mesmerising forms. To my delight, my work was recognised in competition, reaffirming my instinct for colour and rekindling my creative confidence.
Driven by curiosity, I explored every medium I could find—mixed media, painting, drawing, negative space, digital art. I was often told to “just pick one,” but I couldn’t; I was searching for the perfect way to express the images in my mind.
Then, a chance encounter with quilling changed everything. The intricate beauty of this craft inspired me to experiment—first by adding quilled elements to my acrylic paintings, and soon by letting quilling take centre stage. What began as an embellishment soon became a passion, and I found myself creating standalone quilled works.
My journey didn’t stop there. I began merging my drawings with digital enhancements, selecting a central element and bringing it to life through dimensional, hand-crafted quilling. This fusion of drawing, painting, digital art, and quilling became my signature approach, breathing new life into a traditional craft and transforming it into something uniquely my own.
Seequill Art: A New Chapter in Quilling
Through this process, I developed a new style—Seequill Art. Each piece begins with a hand-drawn design, digitally enhanced to reveal fresh possibilities and subtle details. The printed background sets the stage for a dimensional, hand-crafted paper centrepiece, which rises from the surface and invites viewers into a new visual chapter.
The name “Seequill” reflects my vision (“see”) and the idea of evolution (“sequel”), while also nodding to the craft’s origins. Paper is at the heart of this process—cut, shaped, and layered to create depth, light, and narrative. Every piece is more than an image; it’s a tactile journey, a celebration of paper’s versatility, and a new way of seeing.
My art now spans people, animals, botanicals, and landscapes, but always shares a common thread: a central paper element that emerges, elevated and alive, from its environment. Seequill Art honours the beauty of detail, the possibilities of combining traditional paper craft with contemporary technique, and the joy of discovery in every creation.
